Oblivioni is taking a brief break till late next week for, let’s say, a staff off-site devoted to team-building. Yeah, that’s it.
People will all fly in from offices around the world. You know, we’ll have presentations on pending projects, we will have an off-site coordinator who will project-manage the team-building activities. Oh, our co-workers will make a lot of great spot-on observations, we’ll take ideas offline, we’ll be interactive and thoughtful in setting a cadence, it’ll be the modern workplace at its best.
One thing we’ve all been thinking a lot about is the whole Joe-Richard dynamic. You know how when the merger occurred, Joe and Richard suddenly both worked at the same company in the same general role, and they both had a lot of overlapping responsibilities, and Joe saw Richard as a threat, and vice versa? That continues to be a tense situation!
Then, with the acquisition, Adam came into the company, and he really hated Joe, and Joe tried to get Adam fired. Richard’s been trying to get all up in Adam’s business, but only as a kind of preemptive strike against Joe, since Adam reports to Joe indirectly. So with Richard, Joe is all like “I’m going to protect Adam” and then with Adam, he still totally pisses in his face, and then with Erik, Joe’s all like “Let’s fire Adam.”
So we’ll be working on some of the office relationships, which have been a challenge, honestly.
What we’re looking forward to most of all is finally getting to meet our Pyongyang team in person. It’s been pretty hard really building a relationship with them Zoom-only.
At the last off-site, we scheduled laser tag, but Harold’s team from the New York office was kind of overaggressive and that really rubbed Lucy’s team from the London office the wrong way, so this time, no laser tag. No paint ball. Nothing like that. Nothing aggressive. That was Vinny’s idea, and he’s not with the company anymore. Nothing personal, it just didn’t exactly work out. He wasn’t fired. It’s just, the company changed. He’s a great guy though, he’ll do fine.
We’ll probably also have a sack relay race, since we found a stock photo showing a sack relay race. But it won’t be one of those races where someone has to “lose.” No one at Oblivioni Magazine is a loser. We’re all winners! So it’ll be a cooperative, team-building exercise. It’ll be great!
