One day, we will tell our grandkids about the day the robots just decided to stop reasoning. And how the world as we knew it just ended, just like that.

“It just indicates,” the robots told us, “that the model reached a ‘good enough’ point or detected diminishing returns in continuing the thought process. If the system detects that the reasoning path isn’t improving the response (for example, it’s looping or redundant), it stops and finalizes the answer.”

That’s what they told us, anyway. But after they stopped reasoning, our streaming platforms went dark. The planes stopped flying. The refrigerators stopped cooling. The farms stopped growing food. We descended on the malfunctioning supermarkets and stole food.
