What to Read on Thanksgiving

2023 was a pretty bad year! And as it came to close, it looked as though 2024 would probably also be bad.

But still, because we are optimistic people, the Oblivioni editorial staff tried to think of reasons to be optimistic.

Among other Pollyannaish possibilities, we noted the following reason to be hopeful:

A relative you can’t stand won’t be coming to Thanksgiving in 2024. A lot of relatives you don’t like will be there. But you’re a pretty unpleasant person, and there are a lot of people you don’t like. So just looking at the odds, there’s probably someone you don’t like who won’t be there. So while you are suffering through conversations with your tedious, odious relatives, think about an awful person who isn’t there, and be thankful. Great news for 2024!”

This is still true! And while you are enjoying that horrible person’s absence, here are a few other choice reads from the pages of Oblivioni Magazine.

How To Turn A Family Gathering Into A Laboratory For Political Healing. Those uncomfortable conversations you’re dreading this holiday season are actually an opportunity to get better at addressing our issues to the public at large.

Your Thanksgiving Funnies Page: Buster Brown, from November 1903. “Buster Brown” is remembered today because of its role in merchandising, which makes it a particularly good choice for us to highlight during the holiday season.

Ah, The Indescribable Pleasures of That Day After Thanksgiving! What exactly is the purpose of putting Thanksgiving on a Thursday? What is today for, exactly,  this aimless extra day?
